V8 was founded in 1944 by Howard Parker of Center, Texas, a Ford dealer who named his cattle ranch after the engine. His herd became known across the country for outstanding cow families with gentle dispositions.
In 1971, one week before Christmas, Sloan Williams negotiated the purchase of the V8 herd and brand from a pay phone in Red River, New Mexico. Sloan and Mollie Williams, both from deeply rooted Texas ranching families, moved the herd to Wharton County, where it has lived ever since.
Jim Williams returned from Texas A&M in 1976 to manage the purebred Brahman herd, with Luann running the ranch office. He put in the strict selection and culling guidelines and performance records the ranch still follows. Sires such as +Mr. V8 287/5 “Superstroke,” +Mr. V8 380/6 “The Machine” and +Mr. V8 146/8 “Sloan” each defined an era of the herd.
Today at least three generations work side by side: the purebred Brahman herd and show barn at Boling, more than 2,000 commercial cattle at the Hungerford Ranch, and two online Made for Magic sales each year for V8's top heifers.
