Our Story
Welcome to the central high plains of eastern Colorado: short-grass country where annual precipitation averages only 12 inches. Kit and Deanna Pharo grew up here, and in 1985 they leased a sizeable chunk of grassland and bought Kit's dad's closed herd of red and black baldy cows, with over 30 years of pedigree records.
Chasing bigger weaning weights taught them the crucial difference between pounds per animal and pounds per acre. The answer was rotational grazing, calving in sync with nature, and moderate, easy-fleshing, highly fertile cows that survive on what the ranch produces. Pharo Cattle Company sold six bulls in its first production sale in 1991, and hasn't slowed down since.
Today PCC sells over 1,000 bulls a year, with son Tyson running much of the day-to-day ranch and cooperative herds in 12 states, from Minnesota to the Gulf Coast. The mission hasn't changed: to help ranchers put more fun and profit into their business.
