Real results from Mound Creek sales
Mound Creek Ranch has been in the registered seedstock business for over 27 years, hosting 35 production sales, the last 30 at our sale facility near Leona, Texas, since the fall of 1999. Eddie and Cindy Blazek own the ranch; Tracy Holbert is herd advisor.
Twenty years ago we felt the Brangus breed was lacking in too many areas of economic importance, so we remodeled the entire herd using foundation Angus and Brahman to build a more fault-free registered Brangus, with strict emphasis on early puberty, sound feet and legs, calf-raising value, carcass merit, fleshing ability and breed-back.
Today our heifers calve at two, the whole cow herd calves every spring, every bull calf passes a semen test between 11 and 13 months, and yearling bulls work in the breeding pasture at 13 to 15 months. We never consider short-term solutions to long-term problems.
