Our Story
The late Ed Mears worked to produce top-quality Red Brangus by combining highly selected Nelore bulls with outstanding Leachman- and McFee-bred Red Angus females. In 1995 his longtime friend, Marcos Machado Borges Jr., purchased a group of highly selected Red Brangus females from the Mears herd to start MBJ Ranch.
From one generation to the next, we have placed the highest priority on performance-oriented cattle that adapt and do well in all environments. Most MBJ animals are produced through our AI and embryo transfer program, and you will find MBJ donors behind powerful Red Brangus cattle in the U.S., Mexico and around the Brangus world.
Marcos is an economist and animal scientist from the Machado Borges and Lamartine Mendes families, pillars of the Zebu breeds in Brazil. Today, with MBJ and TRIO Cattle & Genetics, he hosts the Red Carpet and Power of the Brands sales at the ranch in Wharton, Texas, 50 miles from the Houston Livestock Show.
