Beefmaster cattle are the first American composite breed. Tom Lasater began developing the breed in 1931 in South Texas, crossing Brahman, Hereford and Shorthorn cattle, and in 1937 he closed his herd to outside genetics. The USDA recognized Beefmasters in 1954.
Today Lorenzo Lasater and his sister and partner, Isabel Lasater Hernandez, represent the fifth generation of the family dedicated to breeding performance Beefmaster genetics. The L Bar brand, first used by Ed Lasater in 1892, has been used continuously by six generations of the family in Texas and Mexico.
We run on 12 leased ranches across seven Texas counties, in a harsh semi-desert environment, with a strict 60-day breeding season. Every herd bull comes from the Isa Bull Performance Test, and every year we host the largest one-brand bull sale in the Beefmaster breed.
