Our Story

Mike and Elizabeth "Crickett" England started England Cattle Co. in 1984 on 40 acres of Crickett's family homestead in Mercedes, deep in the Rio Grande Valley. The home place was built in 1907 by her grandparents, and three generations of Brahman breeders have lived on the ranch since. Mike grew up around Brahmans and worked for Clifford Ranch, a registered Red Brahman operation, from 1975 to 1984.

After years with commercial Brahman-influenced cattle, the family turned to registered polled grey Brahmans, buying their first heifer from polled breeder Carlos Guerra. In under ten years the program became the No. 1 polled Brahman operation in the USA, using embryo transfer, artificial insemination and in-vitro fertilization on its own F1 recipient cows to produce replacement females, herd sires and show prospects.

Today Mike, Crickett, their son Benton (ranch manager), his wife Brooke and their son Burton run about 200 registered Brahmans and 500-plus Brahman-influenced cattle alongside 3,000+ acres of flood-irrigated cotton and row crops. Each May they host the Brahmans on the Rio Production Sale at the ranch, with private-treaty sales opening the Monday after.
