Since 1987 the Collier family has bred only Beefmaster and Beefmaster-influenced cattle. Headquartered in Brenham, Texas, Collier Farms runs purebred Beefmasters on ranches in Central and South Texas, with an E6 division in South Texas, and markets the breed both at home and abroad.
The program rests on multi-trait selection and strict culling. Every brood cow must raise an acceptable calf each year and breed back within a 90-day season under commercial range conditions, while herd sire prospects are judged on structure, weight gain, fertility, their dams' maternal ability, pedigree and red color.
Artificial insemination and embryo transfer let the Colliers use their most complete sires and top donor females more widely, speeding genetic progress for their own herd and for customers. In the spirit of Tom Lasater's six essentials, the goal is forage-developed, range-ready, performance-evaluated cattle that work in any ranching program.
