Jim and Joan Chisholm have bred fullblood Wagyu in Central Texas since 2007, offering red and black Wagyu heifers, bulls, semen and embryos, with a particular focus on helping new ranchers get started with the breed.
The breeding program puts heavy emphasis on original import genetics, including foundation bulls such as Itoshigenami, Rueshaw and Kitateruyasudoi, and favors a low inbreeding coefficient to boost hybrid vigor. Herd size is kept deliberately limited so every animal gets daily attention.
Chisholm Cattle bred JC Rueshaw 75, the Grand Champion Red Bull who posted the highest ever marbling scan and largest rib eye area at the 2014 Houston Livestock Show and topped the contestants again in 2015. At 9 years of age, he and his semen inventory sold in 2022 for a Wagyu world record of $500,000.
Their cattle have been sold to ranchers from Florida to Washington State, from Arizona to North Dakota, and into Mexico.
