Our Story
Since 1969, B&D Herefords and Angus has been raising Line 1 Hereford cattle with a focus on performance and production. Angus cattle were added to the operation in the 1980s. Started by Gerald Beran and his brother-in-law Vince Dolechek, the ranch is now owned and operated by brothers Craig, Gerald Jr., Kevin and Terry Beran, with the next generation, Gerald Jr.'s son Matt, back on the ranch full-time.
Today we run approximately 800 cows spread across the central part of Kansas. We use an extensive amount of AI and embryo transfer to produce more calves from our top-performing cows, and we are DNA testing the entire cow herd, with 50K genomic tests on many bulls.
Hereford genetics predominantly feature Line 1 bloodlines from Holden Herefords and Cooper Herefords, while the Angus genetics feature bloodlines from Schaff Angus Valley and Ellingson Angus. We host two sales each year: the Season Opener in March and the Fall Classic in November.
